Personal Protective Equipment (CE)

Hazards are present in many work environments. In the healthcare setting, examples of hazards are biological hazards (such as infectious materials), chemical hazards (such as cleaning and disinfecting supplies), hazardous drugs, and other hazards. This course will discuss how to protect yourself from these hazards by using personal protective equipment (PPE). Participants will learn about the types of PPE used in the healthcare setting, how to choose the right PPE for the job, and how to use PPE correctly and safely.

Courseware Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize when and why OSHA requires an employer to provide PPE for employees.
  • Recognize when and how PPE should be used in the healthcare setting.
  • List best practices for the use of gloves.
  • Identify how and when to use masks, goggles, and respirators.
  • Recognize when and how protective apparel should be used.
