Tuberculosis

Statistics from 2011 indicate that in the United States, 10,528 cases of tuberculosis (TB) and 529 deaths were reported. Although nationwide TB rates have declined steadily since 1992, rates have, in fact, increased in certain states, and among certain populations. These statistics suggest the ongoing need for vigilance and TB prevention efforts. This continuing education activity will discuss TB screenings, treatment and prevention strategies as well as additional information on the role of personal respiratory protection in preventing healthcare-associated transmission of TB.
